Answers:

1. Are outdoor fires allowed in the city limits?
Exempt when the City burn ban is in effect, Open burning may be allowed. An Open Burn Permit is required for outdoor burning.
2. How do I get a Burn Permit?
Burn permits can be obtained at the Goldendale City Hall offices during office hours. At 1103 S Columbus Ave, Goldendale WA.
3. Do I have to notify anyone when I will be burning?
It is recommended that KCDEM-911 Dispatch be notified each day that a permitt holder will burn. This allows for better resource management. Dispatch may ask for location of the burn and contact information in case of an emergency. It is not required to call in before you burn.
4. Why does there seem to be no one at the fire station when I stop by?
The Fire Station is not staffed with any full time fire fighters. The City of Goldendale Volunteer Fire Department is a volunteer organization. For general business, contact 509-773-4240. If you have an emergency, CALL 911.
5. How many Firefighters are there?
The Goldendale Fire Department maintains an average between 20 and 30 members.
6. Can I become a Volunteer Firefighter?
If you are interested in becoming a firefighter, contact the department and inform us of your interest. We are always looking for responsible community members. Firefighters must be 18 years of age or older. Junior firefighters must be 16 years of age or older.
7. When should I change the battery in my smoke detector?
The battery in you smoke detector should be change every six months.
Changing of the clocks for Daylight Savings in the Spring and Fall is a good time to change out the batteries in your smoke detectors. "Change Your Clock...Change Your Batteries"
8.

Can I get my swimming pool filled up by the fire engine?
This is not a good idea. The water in the fire engines is not good for swimming pools. The tank water may contain chemicals agents that assist us in fighting fires or good old pond water. A garden hose is the best option.

9. My cat is stuck up in the tree...?
As much as we would like to help get the cat out of the tree. A cat is much safer in the tree than a firefighter. It is generally recommended to provide food at the base of the tree and let the cat come down on it's own. In severe cases, contact a tree service, they are better equipped to dwell in the trees.
10. My club or group would like to tour the fire station, is this possible?
Yes, this is possible, contact 509-773-4240
